George Torriano

 

 

Son of Alexander Torriano, father of Nathaniel Torriano and husband of Susannah Proby

 

George was baptised on 20th November 1620. He was a Merchant Taylor, citizen of London and lived in Wandsworth.

 

George married Susannah Proby on 4th November 1651 at St Benet, Paul’s Wharf, London – See Proby Family History.

 

George and Susannah had at least 6 children:

 

Susanna Torriano baptised on 1st June 1655 at St Nicholas Acons, London.

 

Pieter Torriano baptised on 26th March 1657 at St Nicholas Acons, London and was buried there on 6th April 1665.

 

Charles Torriano born on 9th November 1660 and baptised on 13th November at St Nicholas Acons, London. Charles attended Merchant Taylors School from 1673 and  St John’s College, Oxford matriculating on 4th July 1676 aged 15. He was a student of Middle Temple in 1678. He married Rebecca Parrevicini in 1688. Charles died on 13th August 1723 and his will stated that he was a Merchant.

 

Marie Torriano born on 15th September 1662 and baptised on 30th September at St Nicholas Acons, London.

 

Alexander Torriano baptised on 2nd October 1667 at St Nicholas Acons, London. He was admitted to Merchant Taylors school in 1676. He matriculated St John College, Oxford on 10th July 1685 aged 17 graduating B.C.L. in 1693 and  D.C.L. in 1706; He was Professor of Astronomy at Gresham College in 1691; Domestic Chaplain to the Earl of Manchester and Rector of Holywell, Huntingdonshire in 1704 and Canon of Lincoln in 1712.  He died on 7th February 1717.

 

Nathaniel Torriano baptised on 30th December 1673 at St Nicholas Acons, London.

 

George was buried on 23rd November 1685 at St Nicholas Acons, London. His will was granted probate in 1685.
