Hilda Frances Curling

 

Daughter of Edward Ambrose Gordon Coghlan and Hilda Agness Curling, mother of Gerald Charles Gaskell and wife of Dr. Hugh Selwyn Gaskell

Hilda Frances was born in Eythorne, Eastry, Kent to Hilda Agnes Curling who was unmarried. In the 1901 Census she was living at 9 Dolphin Lane, Dover, Kent, aged 4 months, with her mother, her Uncle, Henry Joseph Curling and her grandfather, Henry Joseph Curling. The natural father was Edward Ambrose Gordon Coghlan.  Hilda’s parents registered her birth on 4th July 1927.  Edward, a Gred. Miner of Cambridge House, 12 Montague Street, London WC1.

On Hilda's marriage to Hugh Selwyn Gaskell on 17th November 1919 she was living at 2 Eaton Road

Hilda wrote one short book “The Nineties” published by Arthur H Stockwell Ltd in the 1960’s.  The book and two good reviews are in ROHG’s possession

Hilda died in Dover Hospital and was cremated.

Hilda’s will was dated 19th January 1963. Executors were Hilda’s adopted daughter, Pamela Frances Forge, and the solicitor.

Bequests:

All to Hugh Selwyn Gaskell should he survive her by one month. Otherwise

To Pamela Frances all jewellery and wearing apparel

To Gerald, her son, the proceeds from the sale of the surgery at the Corner House, Stowmarket

To Robert Owen Hugh Gaskell, grandson, all silver, portraits and miniatures

Residue of estate equally between Pamela Frances Gaskell and Robert Owen Hugh Gaskell.
