Son of Stephen Hewgo and Elizabeth Cooke, father of Walter Hewgo and husband of Mary James
John was baptised in St Just in Roseland, Cornwall on 28th November 1628.
He married Mary James of St Just on 18th June 1660. Mary was baptised on 21st August 1642 in St Just in Roseland and she was the daughter of Stephen James and Alice Potts, who married on 21st November 1631 in St Just.
John and Mary had the following children all baptised in St Just in Roseland:
Amy Hewgo on 11th June 1661
John Hewgo on 10th December 1663
Mary Hewgo on 25th April 1665
Walter Hewgo on 24th February 1665/66
Phillip Hewgo on 25th February 1667. Phillip married Mary Crocker on 29th October 1702 in St Just in Roseland
Thomas Hewgo on 13th June 1672. Thomas married Ann Hill in Michaelstoro, Cornwall on 2nd February 1697. Ann was borne c. 1676. They had the following children, baptised in St Just in Roseland:
Ann Hewgo on 25th December 1699
Stephen Hewgo, on 8th November 1704 and died on 16th December 1704
John Hewgo on 13th January 1705 and died on 16th December 1704
There is an inventory of 13th June 1692 of John Hewgoe's estate carried out by William Jenning and John Rice. The inclusion of boats and nets in the inventory suggest that John may have been a fisherman. Administration was granted in 1692 to Mary Hewgoe, widow of John Hugoe, late of St Just.
