Nathaniel Torriano

 

 

Son of  George Torriano and Susannah Proby,  father of Susannah Torriano and husband of Elizabeth Reneu

 

Nathaniel was baptised on 30th December 1673 at St Nicholas Acons, London. He was a Merchant of London, owned lands in Northumberland and had a house in New Court, Swithins, London.

 

Nathaniel married Elizabeth Reneu on 27th October 1699

 

Nathaniel and Elizabeth had 12 children:

 

George Torriano born c.1700 in Madras, India. On 4th August 1725 he married  Susanna Catherina de Dorpere. He died on 16th May 1741 and is buried at St Mary’s Fort, St George, Madras India. He left descendents in India.

 

Elizabeth Torriano born on 14th December 1703 and baptised on 19th December 1703 at St Swithin London-Stone, London.

 

Susannah Torriano born on 3rd June 1705 and baptised on 10th June 1705 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. She died on 7th August 1705.

 

Nathaniel Torriano born on 10th August 1706 and baptised on 28th August 1706 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. He died on 8th October 1706.

 

Susannah Torriano born in 1709. She married Rev Thomas Kynaston on 30th September 1731 and died in childbirth on 14th March 1734.

 

Hillary Torriano born on 23rd June 1713 in Thames Ditton, Surrey. He was baptised on 28th June 1713 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. He married Elizabeth Hardwick van Neck  in Lisbon, Portugal on 6th December 1739 where Hillary held the position of British Factory Chaplaincy.

 

Mary Torriano born on June 1714 and baptised on 22nd June 1714  at St Swithin London-Stone, London.

 

Peter Torriano baptised on 21st May 1715 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. He attended Merchant Taylors School and was admitted a “pensioner” at Jesus College, Cambridge on 7th May 1733. He matriculated in 1735; B.A. in 1736-7; M.A. 1740. He was inducted Deacon at Lincoln Cathedral on 5th June 1737. He was Curate of Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire in 1737. Peter died in Jamaica.

 

Nathaniel Torirano baptised on 4th May 1716 at St Swithin London-Stone, London.

 

Elizabeth Torriano born on 21st December 1717 and baptised on 26th December 1717 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. She married  John Boucher  in 10th July 1750 at St Benet Gracechurch and St Leinard Eastcheap, London

 

Samuel Torriano born in 1719. He married Mary Scudamore on 1st August 1755. Samuel died before 1789. In Thomas Kynaston’s will, proved in 1804, Thomas mentioned money left to him by his late Uncle Samuel Torriano and Samuel’s wife Mary.

 

Charles Torriano born in South Kensington, London and baptised on 12th April 1720 at St Swithin London-Stone, London. Charles married a Jane in 1744.

 

On Thursday 24th February 1715 Nathaniel was recommended to become a member of the Whig political Club in central London.

 

Nathaniel, in the course of his business, visited India and Canton, China on a number of occasions. He was Senior Supercargo (managed the cargo of a number of ships) and Chief of Council in Canton in 1721 and again in 1727/28. It was during a sea trip from England to Canton that he died between Batavia (now Jakarta, Indonesia) and Canton in 1731.
